Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, Keaton was the eldest of four children. She adopted her mother’s maiden name, Keaton, when she began acting professionally. Her career began on stage, including a role in Broadway’s Hair, and she later earned a Tony nomination for Play It Again, Sam. She struggled with bulimia early in her career but eventually recovered with the help of therapy.

Keaton’s film breakthrough came in 1972 when she was cast as Kay Adams in The Godfather. She reprised the role in the film’s two sequels and became a household name. Her collaboration with Woody Allen led to her iconic role in Annie Hall, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
