There’s always a moment when you feel it, even if you don’t say it out loud. The effort that once felt natural slowly starts to disappear, and you begin to notice small changes that are hard to explain but impossible to ignore. The way they used to show up for you is not the same anymore, and even though nothing dramatic has happened, the difference is clear in the little things.
You find yourself thinking about it more often, wondering if it’s just a phase or if something has actually changed, but deep down, you already know the answer.
“The effort didn’t disappear suddenly. It faded slowly while you were still hoping.”
What makes it harder is that you don’t want to accept it right away. You hold onto how things used to be, telling yourself that maybe they are just busy or going through something. You keep giving the same energy, hoping it will bring things back to how they were.
But effort is not something that needs to be forced or reminded. When someone truly cares, it shows consistently without you having to question it.
At some point, you have to stop focusing on what they used to do and start paying attention to what they are doing now. Because the present always tells you more truth than the past ever will.
