Taylor Swift admits Eras Tour left her ‘sick and exhausted’—but secret album reignited her spark

During a candid sit-down with Graham Norton, Taylor Swift opened up about the physical toll of her record-breaking Eras Tour and how her secret passion project, The Life of a Showgirl, became her creative lifeline.

At 35, Swift is no stranger to grueling schedules, but even she admitted the Eras Tour pushed her to the brink. Performing over three hours a night across 149 shows worldwide, she revealed, “I was starting to sort of get sick and kind of worn down.” The relentless pace left her physically drained, with moments where she “could barely lift [her] arms or walk”.

Yet amid the exhaustion, inspiration struck. Swift began secretly writing and recording her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, during breaks in the tour. “I needed something to spark up my imagination and creativity,” she said. “And hopefully that would fuel my physical exhaustion. And it did”. She described flying between stadium shows and studio sessions in Sweden with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback. “It was having that little secret passion project behind the scenes that really helped me not ever hit a wall on that tour,” she added.

Released just 24 hours before her talk show appearance, The Life of a Showgirl has already garnered rave reviews globally. The album’s title track, featuring Sabrina Carpenter, explores the emotional highs and lows of performing night after night, even when feeling “terrible.” Swift embraced a bold new aesthetic for the album, channeling a sultry Vegas showgirl vibe.

Fans are also buzzing over the album’s deeply personal lyrics. In Wood, she gushes about fiancé Travis Kelce’s “magic wand” breaking her emotional curse. Meanwhile, Wi$h Li$t—rumored to be a Kardashian diss track—includes lines about wanting “a couple kids” with Kelce.

On Norton’s sofa, Swift stunned in a black minidress with silver accents, seated beside fellow guests Cillian Murphy, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Domhnall Gleeson, and Lewis Capaldi. Her radiant smile and cascading blonde locks mirrored the joy of an artist reborn. With The Life of a Showgirl, Swift didn’t just survive the Eras Tour—she transformed it into a creative renaissance. As she put it, “It was a blast. Although that depends on your definition of fun!”.
