The galaxy far, far away just collided with Washington politics. The White House has blasted Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, calling him “a sick individual” after he posted an AI-generated image showing President Donald Trump lying in a shallow grave with the words “If Only” written across it.

Hamill — best known as Luke Skywalker and long outspoken against Trump — quickly deleted the post from his Bluesky account and apologized. He clarified that he wasn’t wishing harm on the president, writing, “Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate.” He added that Trump “should live long enough to be held accountable for his crimes.”
The White House’s Rapid Response 47 account on X didn’t hold back, saying, “Mark Hamill is one sick individual. These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves. This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President.”
The controversy comes amid rising political tension and violence. Recent months have seen attacks ranging from a gunman storming the White House Correspondents’ dinner to the killing of activist Charlie Kirk and assaults on political figures like Nancy Pelosi’s husband.
Ironically, Trump himself has faced criticism for fiery rhetoric. The Atlantic documented dozens of times he encouraged or praised violence, including one instance where he joked about aiming guns at political rival Liz Cheney.
Hamill, meanwhile, hasn’t backed down from speaking his mind. Just days after the uproar, he appeared alongside Barack Obama in a YouTube video promoting the new Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. Styled like a Star Wars opening crawl, the video declared: “Hope has a new home.”
